How the titles get ruined

Every title goes through ten round trips between English and a random language, done by M2M-100, an open machine translation model. Nothing is rewritten by hand. The errors are the machine's own. We keep the funniest runs.

You see the last and worst version first. Each wrong guess, or each press of Rewind, moves you one translation back towards the real title. After four takes you also get the year.

Data

Film titles and years come from Wikidata, which is free to reuse under CC0. Garbled has no connection with any film studio.

Privacy

Your streak and results stay in your browser. There are no accounts. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and finished games. It sets no cookies and identifies visitors by a hash that is thrown away after 24 hours. It records the page, referrer, country, device type and browser.
